Remake of Buck Rogers in the 21th century in the make?

Postby Trekscaper » Thu Sep 13, 2007 2:42 pm

I just read this and I had to come here and post it:

“Buck Rogers” In the 21st Century?

Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Staff Journalist)

With the success of “Battlestar Galactica”’s triumphant re-imagining and the potential with this fall’s “Bionic Woman,” Hollywood is scrambling to raid nostalgia vault and find the next big sci-fi property to bring back to our screens.

The next genre property that could get a “re-imagining” is the Buck Rodgers franchise. Best known for it’s two-year run on NBC in the 70s, the franchise has a long history, dating back to the earliest days of movies when it was a popular serial.

Now it appears that it could be getting ready for a new take.

Reports out of Dragon Con from our own crew at the Con and from Dark Horizons have former “Buck Rodgers” star Erin Grey telling fans that “a producer who already has a few comic book movies under his belt is working on acquiring the Buck Rogers license, so that he can go forward with a “re-invisioned” full feature movie of that franchise.”

There’s been no official confirmation of this news either way, but it could be interesting to see what would happen to Buck in a 21st Century “re-imagining.”

We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for more details and confirmation of this developing story.

I suppose I should be happy, but there seem to be an awful lot of remakes going on in Hollywood- are there no more original ideas left in that godforsaken place?

Wow, but I can't say I'm totally stocked by the news :) . Not sure if I wrote this into the Starfest report or not. But during the Q&A given to Gil Gerard and Erin Gray they brought up a possible Buck Rogers film project was in rumor around Hollywood.

Not sure this topic belongs here due to the 25th Century area of the forum. But since it's new and not an old, it'll stay here hawk01 .

So Trekscaper what have you been up to? Haven't seen you around here much over the last few months.

I was ( and still am) busy with school. I am currently writing my final project for school and then I am done with it. Unfortunate I also had to work on it in my vacation. And in free time I have to work and spend time with my girlfriend. So the bottom line: I don't have enough time to post on all the forums I am a member of [depri] I only now post on Dutch forums.

A few months ago I went here but the forum was down. No idea what happened, but yesterday when I read the news of a new buck rogers remake I just had to post it here and share it with the biggest buck rogers fans I know :)

I know that bit about having too much stuff needing to be done. Heck I haven't had a vacation, a real vacation in several years. But when ever you find the time for it, if you want to come in, your always welcome here :sunny: .
