“Buck Rogers” In the 21st Century?
Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Staff Journalist)
With the success of “Battlestar Galactica”’s triumphant re-imagining and the potential with this fall’s “Bionic Woman,” Hollywood is scrambling to raid nostalgia vault and find the next big sci-fi property to bring back to our screens.
The next genre property that could get a “re-imagining” is the Buck Rodgers franchise. Best known for it’s two-year run on NBC in the 70s, the franchise has a long history, dating back to the earliest days of movies when it was a popular serial.
Now it appears that it could be getting ready for a new take.
Reports out of Dragon Con from our own crew at the Con and from Dark Horizons have former “Buck Rodgers” star Erin Grey telling fans that “a producer who already has a few comic book movies under his belt is working on acquiring the Buck Rogers license, so that he can go forward with a “re-invisioned” full feature movie of that franchise.”
There’s been no official confirmation of this news either way, but it could be interesting to see what would happen to Buck in a 21st Century “re-imagining.”
We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for more details and confirmation of this developing story.
