The brigadier looked ahead and saw a man dressed entirely out of place, running up to them energetically. In a heartbeat, he recognized him, and alerted his companions.
"My word, it's The Doctor!" he said, pointing ahead and then quickening his pace to meet his old colleague half way.
The first thing the Time Lord did was give the brig a great hug, to the military man's extreme discomfort. He made up for it with a proper handshake, and gave out the same greeting to the others. Finally, he stepped back to get a good view of them all.
After locking away the moment into his photographic memory, he asked them, "So tell me. How did you all get here in the first place?"
He had on his Doctor face, a bright smile that somehow gave him a commanding presence, an instilling of trust. However, his eyes gave away sadness, and the inflection of his voice dropped slightly, and with the most miniscule hint of hostility. These were subtle enough so that only close friends could notice them.
"Well, it's all because of this damn Cyberman business." The brigadier replied, unnoticing. "There I was, in a nursing home, waiting for the old clock to finally wind down, when miss Smith comes in and begs me to help her! Says some city in France has been locked down without any coverage by the media and UNIT had stopped answering her calls. Of course, I tried to pull some strings to get her an audience, but they ignored me as well. Imagine that. Me! Pushed away by UNIT!
"Of course, that was all I could do to help her. This time I really was too old to get mixed up in these affairs. But then she waves some blasted alien device that would temporarily return my vitality or some other nonsense. I tried to refuse, but you know how Sarah-Jane is. And, as nonsense often does, it worked. So, Torchwood was kind enough to take Sarah-Jane and I to France and, well, our worst fears were confirmed. Cybermen had taken the city, and had already taken root across Europe and America. We fell back, but it seems our meddling caused them to accelerate their plans. The Cybermen went into the open and the world was at war. All boarders were closed, and for some reason UNIT started chasing us.
"Jack, Sarah-Jane, and I made it back to England fine, but the rest of the Torchwood team was captured, I'm sorry to say. We came upon an encampment of survivors where we met all of these young ladies and quickly discovered Who we all had in common. And that's it, Doctor. We've spent the last few months looking for you. Or a way to contact you. Have I ever mentioned how intolerably bad you are at answering your phone?"
<<I re-did Doc Para's just to reiterate what happened before we got off track for about a page.>>
<<After the Doctor greets his old friends, he asks them how they had all arrived there, hoping to get an idea of the sleeper's mission (I assume). The Brig recounts how Sarah got him walking again, and how the war started. First, a city in France stopped communicating with the outside world, with the forces of UNIT and the UN's regular military keeping it that way. The two join up with Torchwood (or what's left of it) in order to investigate. They discover that the Cybermen have invaded, and attack before Sarah-Jane and the others could warn anybody. War breaks out, and UNIT seems to be secretly working with or under the Cybermen against them. Only the brig, Jack, and Sarah-Jane make it back to the UK where they meet up with Peri, Martha, and Donna, and they team up to seek out the Doctor for help.
Sadly, only half of this story is true. The rest is planted information. >>
