I have to preface this thread by saying that although I enjoyed
the film, I never liked it enough to want to own it. This
attitude has saved me a few hundred dollars...

When Pulp Fiction ended its run in the theater, there was a
strong rumor that it would not be released on laserdisc- VHS
tape only! This resulted in lots of fans looking to see if a
foreign-released version could be had. :downtown:

Turns out, a Japanese import LD of Pulp Fiction was made
available about the same time the film was released on VHS.
Unfortunately, the going price for the movie was about $75.
Additionally, the transfer left some things to be desired- the
image was muddy, and of course you had Japanese subtitles
permanently burned into the bottom of the screen.

As it turned out, a few months later the studio DID release a
domestic version for the "low" price of $45. I'm sure a lot of
fans that bought the import disc winced at the thought of having
to spend more dough on a superior version of their favorite
movie. disgust

But the worst insult came roughly a year later...

...when the studio released a "Special Edition" with tons of
extras- available wherever laserdiscs were sold for the tune of
$125!!!

Not counting tax, that's $245 all for one movie! It probably
doesn't help that DVDs are superior in picture quality and all
those previous versions are pretty much worthless... :tard:

...which brings me back to my original statement- I never liked
it enough to want to own a copy. (Lucky me...)
:happy8:

With what you've noted in here on the cost of some LDs that would explain why at the one place I've ever seen them for rent they only had a couple small boxes of them to pick from.
